Professor Tony Travers

Visiting Professor in the Department of Government

Professor Tony Travers is Director of LSE London, a research centre at The London School of Economics and Political Science. He is also a Visiting Professor in LSE’s Department of Government. His key research interests include local and regional government and public service reform.

Professor Travers is currently an advisor to the House of Commons Children, Schools and Families Select Committee and the Communities and Local Government Select Committee.

He has published a number of books on cities and government, including Failure in British Government: The Politics of the Poll Tax (with David Butler and Andrew Adonis), Paying for Health, Education and Housing: How does the Centre Pull the Purse Strings (with Howard Glennerster and John Hills) and The Politics of London: Governing the Ungovernable City.

Cllr Clare Coghill

London Borough of Waltham Forest

Clare Coghill was elected to the London Borough of Waltham Forest in May 2010 to represent the High Street ward in Walthamstow. She became Junior Cabinet Member for Health later in the same year. Subsequently, she held a junior portfolio focused on Town Centres. Clare was appointed as Cabinet Member for Children and Young People in May 2012, leading the Council’s work on Children’s Social Care, Safeguarding and Education.

In 2014, Clare was appointed the Cabinet Member for Economic Growth & High Streets and led a fresh approach to regeneration, planning and development. Waltham Forest has excellent infrastructure, green space and transport links, therefore the priorities lie in developing new, good quality, affordable housing and vibrant town centres. Clare’s policy innovations in this role focussed on pubs, the night-time economy and economic growth.

In January 2017 Clare was elected as Leader of the Labour Group at Waltham Forest Council, and subsequently elected as Leader of the Council at the AGM of Full Council on 25th May 2017. Clare was re-elected Leader of the Council for a 4 year term at the AGM of Full council on 24th May 2018.

Lyn Garner

Lyn joined LLDC, the body responsible for the development of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and its surrounding areas, as Chief Executive in February 2018. She is responsible for overseeing the delivery of 24,000 homes, 40,000 jobs, and the forthcoming East Bank project, a new cultural and education district comprising of new buildings for V&A museum, Sadler’s Wells, BBC Orchestra, and new campuses for UCL East and UAL’s London College of Fashion. Lyn is also currently serving as Chair of Future of London, an independent network for regeneration, housing and economic development.

Professor Sadie Morgan OBE

Sadie Morgan is a founding director of Stirling Prize winning architecture practice dRMM. She lectures internationally on the work of dRMM and the importance of infrastructure which connects back to people and place. She became the youngest president of the Architectural Association in 2013, and in 2016, was appointed Professor at the University of Westminster and awarded an honorary doctorate from London South Bank University.

Sadie was named New Londoner of the Year at the New London Awards 2017 for her work championing the importance of design at the highest political level.

Richard Blakeway

Richard Blakeway is a former adviser to the Prime Minister and Deputy Mayor of London for Housing, Land and Property. During his eight years at the Greater London Authority, Richard was responsible for a £3bn investment programme, building a record 100,000 affordable homes and regeneration of 630 hectares owned by the authority, one of the largest public sector land portfolios in the UK. This included major redevelopment at London's Royal Docks, Greenwich Peninsula and Barking Riverside and the creation of thirty Housing Zones across the capital. Richard was chair of the Homes for London Board, member of the London Enterprise Panel and Crossrail 2 Growth Commission. Following City Hall, Richard was appointed an adviser to the Prime Minister and was instrumental in developing plans for the HM Government's then commitment to build 1 million homes. He is now a strategic adviser to developer EcoWorld London, to Jones Lang LaSalle and to think tank Policy Exchange. Richard is chair of the London Borough of Bexley's property company, BexleyCo Ltd, and a board director of the HMG's regeneration agency, Homes England.
